Muzaffarpur: Two sisters were killed after being struck by a train near the Bhagwanpur Overbridge on Monday morning, leaving their family in shock. Swati Sah and her younger sister Suruchi Sah, both bank employees, had been travelling from Danapur in Patna to Muzaffarpur.

According to local reports, the accident occurred after the sisters disembarked from the train. Swati’s foot became trapped in the railway track, and Suruchi, attempting to help her elder sister, was also struck. Both died at the scene.

News of the accident quickly spread to their family home in Shanti Tola, Danapur, where mourning began immediately. Their parents, Shankar and Savita Sah, were reported to be unconscious with grief, repeatedly telling neighbours that “the whole world has ended.” The sisters had planned to return home on Sunday evening but left earlier in the morning due to rain.

The Sah family had been celebrating Jivitputrika festival together. The middle sister, Surabhi, who works in Nawada, had left for her duties early on Monday, leaving Swati and Suruchi behind. Their maternal grandfather, Ram Pravesh Sah, said the sisters lived in Muzaffarpur for work, and that Swati had married in November 2024. The youngest brother, Shubham, studies B.Tech in Bhopal.

The community gathered as the sisters’ bodies were brought home on Monday evening. Surabhi, who had returned from Nawada, fainted upon seeing her sisters. Local councilors and villagers visited the family to offer condolences.

Police confirmed that initial investigations indicate the accident happened while the sisters were alighting from the train. Suruchi was married and her husband serves in the defence forces, while Swati was recently married. Authorities said both the husband and brother were on their way to the family home, where the last rites are scheduled to take place.

Rajiv Kumar of Sadar police station said, “The police arrived promptly after receiving information from local residents. Investigation is ongoing, but preliminary reports suggest the accident occurred during disembarkation from the train.”
