Patna: Revenue from property registrations in Bihar has more than doubled over the past 10 years, with the state government earning in excess of Rs 49,600 crore, according to official data.
Figures from the Prohibition, Excise, and Registration Department show that between 2015-16 and 2024-25, more than 12.2 million property-related documents – including land, house and flat registrations – were processed.
In 2015-16, registrations brought in Rs 3,562 crore from around 1.1 million documents. By 2024-25, this had risen to Rs 7,648.88 crore from 1.66 million registrations. The previous year, 2023-24, the state collected more than Rs 6,170 crore from 1.4 million documents.
The upward trend has continued into the current financial year. By September 2025, about 757,000 documents had already been registered, generating Rs 3,418.52 crore.
Officials credited the shift to digital systems for making the process more transparent and accessible. Property owners are now able to complete registrations and download documents online without visiting government offices, a move seen as a key driver of higher compliance and revenues.
