Patna: Patliputra Junction, under the Danapur Railway Division, is set for a significant upgrade, aiming to mirror the facilities of Patna Junction. The station has now been included in the government’s Amrit Bharat scheme, which promises modernised infrastructure and improved commuter amenities.
Under the plan, parking capacity at Patliputra Junction will increase substantially. Currently able to accommodate around 100–150 vehicles, the redeveloped station will have space for 1,250–1,500 vehicles, easing congestion and providing a safer, more organised parking arrangement.
Passenger conveniences will be concentrated on the ground floor, which will house the general ticket counter, enquiry office, waiting room, pay-and-use toilets, and the reservation counter. A dedicated ground-level parking area will allow vehicles to enter directly from the main road.
The access road to the station, currently only 18–20 feet wide, is set to be widened to two lanes with a central divider. Officials say this will ensure smooth traffic flow and direct access to the parking area, while also reducing the problem of vehicles parked along nearby streets and in front of shops and homes.
If the project proceeds on schedule, Patliputra Junction’s transformation is expected to be completed within the next two months, offering commuters a modernised, seamless travel experience comparable to Patna Junction.
