Patna: The impact of continuous rainfall in West Bengal is now being felt in Bihar, where the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for 26 districts, including Patna, warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and winds reaching up to 40 km/h.
According to the Patna Meteorological Center, districts in South and East Bihar are likely to experience heavy rain and lightning today, while weather conditions will remain normal in 13 districts of North Bihar.
Low-Pressure System Developing in Bay of Bengal
Meteorologists have predicted that around September 25, a new low-pressure system will develop in the Bay of Bengal near the Myanmar–Bangladesh coasts. If it intensifies, Bihar will witness its direct impact, bringing light to moderate rainfall across several districts on September 25 and 26. Weather conditions are expected to gradually improve after October 2.
Rainfall in the Last 24 Hours
In the last 24 hours, heavy rain lashed Patna, Aurangabad, Jehanabad, and Gopalganj. Patna witnessed sudden downpours after noon on Tuesday, leading to waterlogging in several areas of the capital. The rain lasted nearly three hours, disrupting traffic and local movement.
In Aurangabad, a National Democratic Alliance (NDA) workers’ conference in Rafiganj Assembly constituency was interrupted by heavy rain, forcing attendees to shield themselves with chairs while continuing to listen to speeches. Bagaha recorded the highest temperature in the state at 36.2°C.
Advisory for Citizens and Farmers
Officials have warned that heavy rainfall may lead to flooding in low-lying areas and disrupt daily life. The Meteorological Department has advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel and stay away from open fields, under trees, and near electric poles during thunderstorms.
Farmers and the public have been urged to closely monitor weather updates on their mobile phones and follow safety advisories to prevent mishaps.
