Patna: Even as the monsoon is withdrawing from most parts of the country, it remains active over Bihar, prompting the Meteorological Center to issue a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in 19 districts on Thursday. The remaining 19 districts are likely to experience normal weather conditions.
According to the Meteorological Center, a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is influencing Bihar’s weather. Heavy rain is expected across several districts in the next 24 to 48 hours, and showers are likely to continue through the Navratri period.
Rivers Cause Erosion in Bettiah and Vaishali
The Gandak River’s erosion intensified in Siswa village of Bettiah on Wednesday, submerging nearly half a dozen houses and threatening many more. Villagers have abandoned their homes and are moving to safer locations.
Meanwhile, the Ganga River is also eroding land in Vaishali district. In Ganiyari Tola of Sahadei, Desari, one house was washed away this week.
Rainfall Recorded in Nalanda, Bettiah, and Lakhisarai
Rainfall in the past 24 hours was reported from Nalanda, Bettiah, and Lakhisarai. In contrast, Patna witnessed intense heat and humidity on Tuesday, though it recorded light showers by Wednesday.
The maximum temperature in the state capital was 33.9 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, dropping slightly to 32.3 degrees on Wednesday.
Rain Likely Until October 2
Meteorologists have forecast that a fresh low-pressure area will form over the Bay of Bengal near the Myanmar and Bangladesh coasts around September 25. If it strengthens, it could bring widespread rainfall to Bihar.
The Meteorological Department has predicted rain in the state until October 2, after which weather conditions are expected to gradually improve.

Patna is expected to have partly cloudy skies on Thursday with little chance of rain. After September 25, light to moderate showers may return as the new system develops in the Bay of Bengal. During this period, maximum temperatures are likely to remain between 32–34 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures will range between 24–25 degrees Celsius.
