Patna: Patna Municipal Corporation organised a large-scale cleanliness drive today at S.K. Puri Park as part of the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva 2025 campaign, urging citizens to embrace hygiene and environmental responsibility.
The event, held under the slogan “One Day, One Hour, Together,” was attended by Urban Development and Housing Minister Jibesh Kumar, who administered a cleanliness pledge to participants and encouraged citizens to dedicate two hours each week, totalling 100 hours annually, to maintaining clean surroundings. He also called on residents to raise awareness about hygiene among 100 people in their communities.
“The campaign is not merely a government initiative; it is the social responsibility of every citizen,” Kumar said, emphasising that the programme aims to realise Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of a clean India and to leave behind a healthier environment for future generations. Originally scheduled to run from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday on September 17 to Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, the Bihar government has extended the campaign to coincide with Chhath Puja to widen its reach.

Patna Municipal Commissioner Animesh Kumar Parashar highlighted the role of public participation in achieving a clean city. “The Municipal Corporation is continuously striving to maintain cleanliness, but the goal cannot be achieved without the active involvement of citizens. We thank all ward councillors and residents for their enthusiastic engagement,” he said.
The drive also saw participation from Secretary of the Urban Development Department Abhay Kumar Singh, Additional Secretary Vijay Prakash Meena, senior officials, staff members, and ward councillors, all of whom took part in cleaning the park and surrounding areas.
Initiated under the Swachh Bharat Mission, the campaign focuses on preventing littering, proper use of waste bins, and public awareness about hygiene. It will continue across various parts of Patna until October 29.
