Patna: The fifth day of Sharad Navratri is being observed today, coinciding with the continuation of the Chaturthi tithi — a lunar phase appearing for the second consecutive day, an occurrence noted for the first time in nine years. On both days, devotees worship Goddess Kushmanda, the fourth manifestation of the Divine Mother, believed to bring relief from ailments, prosperity and spiritual growth.
Friday also aligns with Vishakha Nakshatra, along with the auspicious Ravi Yoga and Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga. Priests say these combinations are regarded as particularly favourable for worship, enhancing both worldly and spiritual well-being.
According to Acharya Rakesh Jha, the doors of temples will formally open on Mahasaptami, Monday. Traditional rituals will be performed across homes and temples before the unveiling of the deity, with devotees offered darshan — the first glimpse of the goddess. On the same day, Goddess Kalaratri, the seventh form of the Divine Mother, will be honoured, followed by the Mahanisha Puja, a midnight ritual.
The celebrations will continue with Mahashtami on Tuesday and Mahanavami on Wednesday. These days will feature Sandhi Puja, Shringar Puja, completion of Vedic chants, fire rituals, Pushpanjali, and Kanya Puja — the worship of young girls. The goddess will be adorned with flowers, perfume, ornaments and festive clothing, while devotees will present offerings of sweets, fruit and dry fruits as prasad before the grand aarti.
