Patna: Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Chanpatia Nagar Panchayat signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding on Saturday under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs’ Swachh City Jodi initiative. The partnership positions Patna as a mentor city and Chanpatia as a mentee, with a shared goal of improving sanitation and advancing towards the Swachh Bharat Mission’s objectives of “Garbage Free India” and “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.”
Deputy Mayor Reshmi Kumari said the collaboration would involve joint action plans focusing on process replication, field improvements and citizen participation. “The aim is not just to improve rankings but to bring real change in people’s lives,” she said.

Rajni Devi, chief councillor of Chanpatia Nagar Panchayat, called the partnership “an excellent opportunity” to enhance local systems under Patna’s guidance. Municipal commissioner Animesh Kumar Parashar noted that Patna’s recent progress—including its 21st rank among million-plus cities in the 2024 Swachh Survekshan and a three-star rating for the first time—was the result of consistent work, and pledged to share expertise with Chanpatia.
The MoU outlines eight focus areas, from eliminating garbage-sensitive points and ensuring 100% door-to-door waste collection to strengthening solid waste management, sanitation worker welfare, behaviour change campaigns and grievance redressal systems.
Chanpatia recently organised rallies and community drives as part of Swachhata Hi Seva Pakhwada 2025. Officials from both urban bodies said the partnership could serve as a model for other municipalities across India.
