Patna: An FIR has been registered against Jan Shakti Janata Dal (JJD) national president and Mahua Assembly candidate Tej Pratap Yadav for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during his nomination rally in Mahua, Vaishali district.
The case was filed after a video surfaced on social media showing a white Bolero vehicle bearing a police logo and blue-red flashing lights, escorting Yadav’s rally. The use of such vehicles in campaign events is prohibited under election regulations.
Following the video’s circulation, the Mahua Circle Officer, Mani Kumar Verma, lodged a formal complaint at Mahua police station, leading to an FIR against Yadav under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
Confirming the action, Superintendent of Police (SP) Lalit Mohan Sharma said that the viral footage clearly indicated the use of a vehicle resembling a police escort. “Using a vehicle with police markings and beacons during an election campaign amounts to a violation of the Model Code of Conduct,” he stated in a press release.
The video, reportedly shot on 16 October, shows a Bolero with registration number BR-03AR-1820 driving ahead of Tej Pratap’s convoy, carrying his party’s flag. The clip quickly spread across social media, prompting the authorities to act.
