Bhorey/Gopalganj: Addressing a gathering in Kateya, Gopalganj in support of JD (U) candidate and education minister Sunil Kumar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday sharply criticized the period before he took office, branding it an era of stagnation and insecurity. He asserted that in the 20 years since, Bihar has “reached new heights of development.”
The core of his speech focused on tangible government achievements across key sectors:
- Education: The Chief Minister proudly announced that more than five lakh teachers have been appointed across the state, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to rebuilding the education sector.
- Health and Welfare: He mentioned the opening of several new medical colleges and noted economic relief measures, including free electricity up to 125 units for the general public and an increase in old-age pensions.
- Women Empowerment: Nitish pointed to significant steps in gender parity, noting that the number of women in the Bihar Police is higher than in any other state in India, a hallmark achievement of his tenure.
Social Harmony and Alliance Praise
Shifting focus to social unity, Chief Minister Kumar stated that his government has worked equally for both the Hindu and Muslim communities, claiming to have ended the politics that previously exploited communal issues. He cited the government’s action of fencing Muslim graveyards while simultaneously ensuring boundary walls were built around temples.
The Chief Minister concluded his address by offering strong praise for the central leadership, affirming the strength of the ruling alliance. He specifically lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that the Prime Minister is “significantly contributing to Bihar’s development.”
