Patna: A disturbing case of sextortion has emerged in Patna, with Saket Singh, a resident of the Digha police station area, falling victim to a fraudulent scheme resulting in a loss of Rs 1 lakh. Following the complaint lodged by the victim, authorities have initiated an investigation, registering a case at the cyber police station.
According to Saket Singh’s statement, the ordeal began on April 26 when he received a video call from the number 8826372624. Upon answering the call, an unidentified woman engaged in lewd acts while recording a video. Subsequently, the woman threatened to disseminate the video unless a ransom was paid, prompting Singh to block the caller’s number.
The situation escalated on April 28 when another call, originating from the number 7738018258, purportedly from Chanakya Puri in Delhi, claimed that an FIR had been filed against Singh for uploading illicit content. Allegedly, a warrant was issued for his arrest, and Singh was instructed to contact one Rahul Kumar at 7536537664 to resolve the matter.
Under duress, Singh complied with the demands, transferring Rs 1 lakh twice via UPI to a specified number, 9971765866, as instructed by Rahul. Despite the payments, Singh was informed that only two out of three videos had been deleted, with further demands for additional funds to erase the remaining footage. Sensing deception, Singh refused, prompting the disappearance of Rahul’s contact details.
In response to the incident, Cyber Police Inspector Pushkar Kumar confirmed the registration of a case based on Saket’s complaint. Investigations are underway to trace the origins of the calls and track the money transfer recipients, with assurances that the perpetrators will be apprehended swiftly.
