DANAPUR: A fire erupted at Saguna Mor police post in the city on Thursday around 1:45 pm, triggered by a short circuit. The flames quickly intensified, destroying three rifles, approximately 200 bullets, an air conditioner, a fan, and the personal belongings of the police personnel stationed at the post.

Upon receiving the alert, a swift response from half a dozen fire brigade vehicles helped bring the fire under control. However, the delayed arrival of the fire brigade, attributed to a road jam, allowed the blaze to escalate, resulting in substantial losses.

City Superintendent of Police (West) Rajesh Kumar, ASP Abhinav Dhiman, Police Station Head Samrat Deepak, and Sub-Divisional Officer Pradeep Singh promptly reached the spot to assess the situation and gather information about the incident.

City SP Rajesh Kumar stated that the precise count of bullets destroyed in the fire would only be determined after a thorough stock reconciliation.

The police post, housing Bihar Police and Home Guard personnel, served as a residence and duty station. Despite the unfortunate incident, the City SP assured that the post would be reconstructed soon, emphasizing its importance as a crucial checkpoint.

The police post’s rooms, constructed with hard boards, contributed to the rapid spread of the fire. Despite the valiant efforts of the police personnel to control the blaze and retrieve the rifles and bullets, their attempts were in vain. The sound of cartridges exploding echoed amidst the flames, adding to the intensity of the situation. Meanwhile, at Saguna Mor, a queue of vehicles formed, hampered by the ongoing emergency response.

Efforts are underway to investigate the exact cause of the short circuit and evaluate the extent of the damage, as the community awaits the reconstruction of this vital police post.
