Patna: Voting for the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections concluded on Thursday with a voter turnout of around 60% by 6 p.m., according to official figures. As polling drew to a close, Lalu Prasad’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) issued a special appeal to its booth-level agents (BLAs), polling agents, and party workers to remain vigilant even after the voting ended.
In a notice shared on X, the RJD directed its representatives to monitor the movement of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) closely, urging them to accompany the vehicles transporting the machines from polling stations to the designated strong rooms where they are stored. The party also instructed polling agents to collect Form 17C (Part 1) — which contains the record of votes cast — from presiding officers and hand it over to the party’s election agent.

The RJD alleged that “rigging” could be attempted by the ruling party and administration during the post-poll phase. To prevent this, it advised polling agents to note down the names of all voters who remain in the queue at the close of polling and have been issued slips by the presiding officer.
In the first phase, elections were held across 121 constituencies in 18 districts, with the RJD contesting 73 seats. Earlier in the day, RJD chief Lalu Prasad cast his vote in Patna alongside family members, including former chief minister Rabri Devi, Misa Bharti, Rohini Acharya, Tejashwi Yadav, and Rajshree.
