Patna: Following the completion of the first phase of voting in the Bihar Assembly elections, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai and Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary expressed strong confidence in the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) performance, claiming a decisive victory is imminent.
Rai said voter enthusiasm across both urban and rural areas reflected overwhelming support for NDA candidates. “Whether in cities or villages, the enthusiasm for NDA is proof that a landslide victory on November 14 is certain,” he said. Rai accused the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) of attempting to disrupt polling at several locations, alleging that “the patrons of hooliganism, jungle raj, and corruption” tried to create unrest during the voting process.
He added that such efforts were contained by the administration and met with resistance from the public. “The impressive turnout is proof that Bihar is a land of democracy. The people have once again sent a powerful message to the nation and the world,” Rai said, framing the participation as a mandate for “a developed and strong Bihar.”
Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary echoed similar sentiments, crediting the electorate for what he described as peaceful and enthusiastic participation. Addressing a press conference at the BJP Media Centre on Thursday evening, Choudhary said voter turnout had risen by four to five percentage points compared to the previous assembly polls.
Choudhary further claimed that the Grand Alliance’s chief ministerial candidate is set to lose and drew parallels with the 2010 elections, in which no member of RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav’s family secured a seat. “Just as in 2010, no member of Lalu’s family will win this election either. Everyone will face defeat,” he said.
According to Choudhary, preliminary feedback from party representatives and candidates suggests that the NDA is poised to win around 100 of the 121 constituencies that went to the polls in the first phase. “This year’s results will break the record of 2010,” he asserted.
