Patna: The political situation inside the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) became strained soon after the Bihar election results, when former Union Minister RK Singh was suspended from the organisation. The party issued an official notice stating that Singh was removed because of repeated controversial statements and activities that were reportedly hurting the BJP. For days before the elections, Singh had taken a strong public stand against the NDA leadership, several candidates and the Bihar government, alleging that individuals with criminal histories were occupying important positions within the alliance.
In response to the suspension letter, RK Singh publicly expressed anger and frustration. He posted on social media that he had been asked to explain why he should not be fully expelled from the party. Singh questioned why the notice did not mention the specific anti-party actions he was accused of. He clarified that he had only opposed the distribution of election tickets to people with criminal backgrounds and argued that raising one’s voice against such practices cannot be considered disloyalty. According to him, allowing criminals into politics harms the party, the public and the nation.
Singh further claimed that his criticism of corrupt and criminal elements within the political space had made some leaders unhappy. He alleged that instead of addressing the core issue, the party leadership chose to silence him. Singh said this move damages the BJP’s credibility at a time when public trust in politics is already fragile. He declared that he had sent his resignation to the party, signalling that he had no intention of backing down or attempting reconciliation.
This controversy follows weeks of aggressive campaigning by RK Singh in which he repeatedly criticised certain NDA candidates. In one of his most discussed public remarks, he told voters that “it is better to drown in a small puddle than to vote for such people”. The comment caused sharp reactions both within the BJP and across the state. While supporters praised him for raising the issue of criminalisation in politics, critics accused him of weakening the party during a crucial election. His suspension has now intensified the debate over internal discipline, political accountability and candidate selection within Bihar politics.
