Patna: A disturbing incident involving Patna police and a pregnant woman has sparked outrage after a video of the episode began circulating on social media. The footage, which has not been independently verified by local media, appears to show a police officer pushing a scooter towards a woman who pleaded with him to stop because she was pregnant.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Marine Drive on Monday night. The woman and her husband were reportedly returning from a walk and were riding their scooter on the wrong side of the road due to the U-turn being too far away. A police officer stopped them and issued a challan. An argument reportedly broke out over the citation.
The police then confiscated the scooter and began taking it to the station. The woman tried to prevent the officer from moving the vehicle and requested to accompany him, but the officer allegedly ignored her. She sustained minor injuries as the scooter was moved.
The couple later reached the police station, where the husband also arrived. The scooter was returned to them after they were reportedly promised that no further action would be taken. Authorities said the scooter had an outstanding challan exceeding Rs 10,000, which the couple was instructed to settle promptly.
The episode has prompted criticism and questions about police conduct, particularly regarding the treatment of vulnerable individuals. The Patna police have not issued an official statement on the incident.
