Patna: The Tourism Department of Bihar has announced a major step to boost the travel experience in the state with the launch of world-class caravan buses. These buses, which have already arrived in Patna, will soon be available for booking through the Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation (BSTDC). According to officials, the aim is to provide tourists with a new kind of comfortable and modern travel experience without needing to depend on hotels or restaurants during the journey.
Each caravan is not an ordinary bus but a luxury mobile hotel equipped with high-quality facilities. The interior includes seven comfortable reclining seats and four sleeper berths for resting. Five LED televisions, a music system and other entertainment options are also available to make long journeys enjoyable. The bus includes a bathroom and a fully equipped mini-kitchen where travellers can prepare food if they wish, giving families and groups more independence and flexibility while travelling.
The government has introduced a structured booking plan to make the service accessible. For long-distance journeys, the caravan can be booked for a minimum of 250 kilometres at the rate of ₹75 per kilometre. In Patna, travellers can also book the bus for short city tours at ₹11,000 for a 12-hour, 75-kilometre ride. Full-day bookings are expected to cost around ₹20,000. These buses will be linked to special tourism circuits such as Bodhgaya–Nalanda day trips and the Valmiki Nagar Tiger Reserve Safari, making it easier for tourists to explore multiple destinations.
Officials expect that the new project will create a positive economic impact. The caravan service is expected to attract both domestic and foreign tourists, increasing tourism revenue by several crores of rupees every year. It will also create direct employment opportunities, with each bus providing 50–60 jobs, including positions for drivers, guides, chefs and support staff. Beyond economic benefits, the service aims to encourage families and groups to travel together, cook together and enjoy quality time while exploring well-known places such as Nalanda, Bodhgaya, Rajgir and Vaishali.
Overall, the new caravan buses are expected to make travel inside Bihar more convenient, affordable and memorable. With luxury hotel-style amenities available on the move, the state hopes that tourists will choose the experience not just to reach a destination but to enjoy the journey itself. Bookings for the caravan buses will open soon on the official BSTDC website and mobile number.
