Patna: A 10-day training workshop for the first batch of engineers from Bihar’s Rural Works Department (RWD) concluded on Friday at IIT Patna, with officials emphasising the importance of continuous learning and technological competence in infrastructure development.
The programme, Integrated Training on Bridge and Pavement Design, Inspection, Monitoring, Performance Assessment, and Capacity Building, was attended by 57 assistant engineers from the RWD.

Addressing the valedictory ceremony, Dipak Kumar Singh, additional chief secretary of the department, said engineers must uphold “knowledge, integrity and commitment” to meet the demands of a rapidly changing professional landscape.
Prof T N Singh, director of IIT Patna, noted that technology in construction and design is evolving at a fast pace. Training initiatives, he said, enable engineers to “refresh and reinvent” their skills to ensure safety and durability in road and bridge projects.

M Sarvanan, secretary of the Rural Works Department, and Sanjay Kumar, joint secretary, also spoke about the significance of strengthening technical capacity within the state’s engineering workforce.
Certificates were awarded to all participants, with special recognition for engineers who excelled during the programme.

The event was attended by senior IIT Patna faculty members including Dr Vaibhav Singhal and Dr Arpit Jain, conveners of the programme, along with Prof Pritam Kumar, Dr Anup Keshri and Dr Subrata Hait.
Both IIT Patna and the Rural Works Department said they would continue collaborative training efforts to enhance infrastructure development across Bihar.
