Patna: Patna District authorities have announced a large-scale anti-encroachment campaign, with bulldozers set to be deployed across the city from December 1. The move follows the appointment of Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary as Bihar’s Home Minister, a portfolio traditionally retained by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

The administration has formed nine teams tasked with removing illegal encroachments in six major city areas: Nutan Rajdhani, Pataliputra, Kankarbagh, Bankipur, Azimabad, and Patna City. The drive will also extend to the Municipal Council areas of Khagaul, Phulwari Sharif, and Danapur Nizamat.

According to District Magistrate Dr Thiyagarajan SM, the campaign will operate as a multi-agency effort, involving the Municipal Corporation, police, transport authorities, and zonal officers. The administration said the initiative targets encroachments on roads, footpaths, canal banks, and other government land, which have reportedly increased in recent years.

Officials have been instructed to identify encroachments and enforce penalties strictly. First-time offenders will face fines and confiscation of goods, while repeat violators will be subject to FIRs. Authorities have emphasised that re-encroachment will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
