Patna: From Monday, commercial vehicles, autos, e-rickshaws and taxis will no longer be allowed inside Patna Junction as part of a new traffic management plan aimed at reducing congestion and chaotic parking in the area. Only private vehicles will have access to the station, authorities announced on Sunday.
The revised plan, issued following a joint inspection by the Municipal Commissioner, the Senior Superintendent of Police, the Superintendent of Traffic Police, and other officials, also imposes a no-parking zone along the stretch from Patna Junction to the General Post Office (GPO) roundabout.
Under the new system, public vehicles approaching from Kankarbagh will be directed to park along the route via Chiraiyatand Bridge, GPO Roundabout, R Block Roundabout, and the Multi-Level Parking Hub. A dedicated return route has been laid out for autos travelling back to Kankarbagh, which will pass through pier number 04, under the GPO roundabout, over the R Block roundabout, and via the Chiraiyatand bridge.
To maintain smooth traffic flow, autos and e-rickshaws have also been banned from operating on both sides of Exhibition Road. More than 24 additional traffic police personnel have been deployed near the Chiraiyatand flyover and the GPO to enforce the new regulations. Barricades will be erected to prevent unauthorised public vehicles from entering the restricted zone.
The Traffic Superintendent of Police, Vaibhav Sharma, warned that any commercial vehicle attempting to enter the station will face fines and a formal police complaint. He urged commuters to comply with the new traffic plan to ensure safer and smoother movement around Patna Junction.
