Patna: Bihar’s Governor Arif Mohammad Khan and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar paid homage to Bharat Ratna Dr Rajendra Prasad, India’s first President, on Wednesday as the state marked his 141st birth anniversary.
The leaders laid wreaths at Dr Prasad’s statue at Rajendra Chowk, remembering his pivotal role in the country’s freedom struggle and his contributions to nation-building. “He was a great hero of Indian history,” both leaders said.

Following the ceremony, they visited the Swadeshi Kambal Ashram, where they distributed sarees to women engaged in spinning the charkha, emphasising the importance of women in building a self-reliant India.
The day’s tributes continued at Rajendra Ghat, where Governor Khan and Chief Minister Kumar laid wreaths at Dr Prasad’s Samadhi. Attendees observed a moment of silence and paid respects to the former President.
Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, Water Resources Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, Health Minister Mangal Pandey, Rural Works Minister Ashok Choudhary, and other public representatives were present. Portraits of Dr Prasad were garlanded, and the Information and Public Relations Department performed patriotic songs and traditional Bihar folk music, accompanied by Aarti and pujan rituals.
Bharat Ratna Dr Rajendra Prasad is remembered not only as a freedom fighter but also as Chairman of the Indian Constituent Assembly, who helped lay the foundation of the nation. Attendees on Wednesday reflected on his simplicity, dedication, and lifelong service to India.
