Patna: A man was threatened at gunpoint in a road rage incident in Patna on Saturday night after he declined to give way to a motorcycle in a narrow street, police said. The victim, Ashutosh Rai, is the son of JD(U) leader and former MLA Chhotelal Rai.
The incident took place around 9.30pm in Nehru Nagar, Road No 5, within the Patliputra police station limits. Rai had stepped out in a car to buy medicine, with his driver at the wheel, when two men riding a motorcycle approached from the opposite direction.
According to police and CCTV footage from the area, the motorcyclists behaved aggressively, demanding that the car move aside. The pillion rider reportedly dismounted, approached the driver’s side window and brandished a pistol while abusing and threatening the occupants, before both men fled the scene.
Police registered a case shortly after receiving the complaint and launched a search operation. Within hours, officers intercepted two men on a motorcycle near the Indra Nagar drain. The rider escaped, but the pillion rider was arrested and identified as Vicky Singh, a resident of Nehru Nagar originally from Islampur in Nalanda district.
Deputy superintendent of police (DSP-2) Mohd Mohibullah Ansari said the accused had multiple prior cases against him. “A motorcycle without a number plate, a pistol, a magazine and three cartridges have been seized,” he said, adding that the second suspect remained at large.
Police records show that Singh has at least seven cases registered against him, including offences under the Arms Act and assault, at the Patliputra and Buddha Colony police stations. Two additional cases have been filed in connection with Saturday’s incident. Officers said he had been released from jail a few months ago.
The Patliputra station house officer, Atulesh Kumar Singh, said teams were continuing raids to trace and arrest the absconding rider.
