Patna: An alleged assault aboard the Tejas Express at Patna Junction has triggered an investigation by railway police after a 67-year-old man accused a fellow passenger of violence over a seat dispute, and claimed that on-board security failed to intervene.
The incident occurred on the evening of December 18 in coach B-1 of the Patna–Delhi Tejas Express. According to a complaint filed with the Government Railway Police (GRP), Braj Kishore Singh, a resident of Vaishali district, was accompanying his niece to see her off on the train. His niece, who was reportedly unwell, was attempting to access her allotted middle berth.
Singh alleged that a passenger occupying the lower berth forcibly pulled down the middle berth. When his niece objected, the man allegedly slapped her. Singh said that when he intervened, he was pushed to the floor of the compartment, sustaining bleeding injuries to his hand.
The elderly man claimed he immediately alerted the Railway Protection Force (RPF) by calling the helpline number 139. Although an escort team reportedly arrived, Singh alleged that no action was taken against the accused.
Fearing further violence and concerned for his niece’s safety, Singh said he decided to take her off the train at Patna Junction and cancel her journey to Delhi.
Based on his complaint, the Patna Junction GRP has registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident. Police officials said statements are being recorded and efforts are under way to identify and trace the accused passenger.
