Munger: Bhimbandh, a well-known natural tourist spot in Bihar, is soon going to see a major change. Located in the Haveli Kharagpur block, the Bhimbandh Wildlife Sanctuary will be developed as a large and modern tourist centre. The Bihar government has approved a Detailed Project Report worth Rs 54.35 crore for this purpose. With this project, the sanctuary will be upgraded into a wildlife reserve and its surroundings will be improved to attract more visitors while protecting nature.
Under the plan, development work will be carried out from Bhimbandh to Chormara via Beltand. Many new facilities will be created to make the area more comfortable and attractive for tourists. Two hot water springs will be built for visitors, along with an entrance plaza that will include a waiting area, reception and restaurant. A wellness centre, experience centre and indoor sports area are also planned. Separate activity zones will be developed for adults and children so that families can enjoy their visit together.
The project also focuses on nature-based tourism and relaxation. A natural spa centre and an Ayurveda village will be developed at Chormara, while Bhimbandh will get tree house cottages surrounded by forests. Food kiosks, parking facilities, landscaped areas and clear signboards will improve visitor convenience. Bird-watching towers and mountain viewpoints will allow tourists to enjoy wildlife and scenic views. A two-kilometre trekking route will also be created to reach a temple located on the hilltop, offering adventure along with spiritual tourism.
Apart from tourism, the plan aims to improve the lives of local people. New livelihood opportunities will be created through poultry farming, goat rearing, fish farming and the setting up of herbal oil and medicine processing units. Tree plantation, fruit orchards, handicrafts and handmade products will also be encouraged. A large community facility centre will support training and local activities. Officials believe that this combined focus on tourism and community development will bring economic growth, strengthen the local population and turn Bhimbandh into an important eco-tourism destination in Bihar.
