Patna: Bihar’s prison department has signed a five-year memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Art of Living, Bangalore, to provide regular yoga and meditation training to inmates across the state. The initiative is intended to strengthen the physical and mental well-being of prisoners, supporting their rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
The MoU was signed at the Prison Inspection Office in Patna in the presence of the state’s Deputy Secretary-cum-Director of Administration, Sanjeev Jamuar, alongside senior officials from the prison department.
Under the agreement, inmates will participate in structured yoga and meditation sessions designed to cultivate self-discipline, positive thinking, mental peace, and a healthy lifestyle. Officials hope the programme will contribute to improved emotional balance and overall personal development among prisoners.
Senior officials present included Deputy Inspector General of Prisons Jawahar Lal Prabhakar, Prison Welfare Officer Binod Kumar Prabhaskar, Assistant Secretary Binod Kumar Prabhakar, Probation Officer Jyotsna Singh, and Art of Living representatives Meera Singh, Jayant Bhole, and Dilip Kumar Shukla.
The initiative marks a significant step in promoting rehabilitative practices in Bihar’s correctional facilities, combining physical wellness, mental health, and educational engagement for inmates.
