Muzaffarpur: A group of teenagers were detained on Tuesday after allegedly throwing stones at the Vande Bharat Express in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district, an incident railway officials say was carried out while filming a video for social media.
The stone-pelting occurred on the Muzaffarpur–Motihari rail section as the Gorakhpur–Patliputra Vande Bharat Express was passing through the Kati police station area on Tuesday morning. According to railway authorities, three minors standing near the tracks began hurling stones at the moving train, apparently attempting to capture the act on camera.
Several stones struck the train from the engine to the rear coaches, damaging windows in coaches C-1, C-4 and E-1. The sudden impact caused panic among passengers, though no injuries were reported.
Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel and the escort party deployed on the train noticed the youths near the trackside and alerted local RPF teams. Officers reached the spot on motorcycles and detained the three teenagers.
Railway superintendent of police Vinita Kumari said the incident took place as the train was travelling from the Narkatiaganj side towards Muzaffarpur. “On receiving information about stone-pelting, an investigation was carried out. Three children, all under the age of 15, admitted to throwing stones while trying to show off their aim and record a video,” she said.
The damaged coaches were documented, and the minors were questioned before appropriate action was initiated under juvenile justice procedures, police said.
The incident has once again drawn attention to the growing number of risky social media stunts around railway infrastructure, even as authorities continue to stress that such acts endanger passengers and can have serious legal consequences.
