Patna: Students in government secondary and senior secondary schools across Bihar will receive free online coaching for competitive examinations from the start of the new academic session in April 2026, officials have said.
The initiative, to be implemented by the Bihar Education Project Council, will cater to students from classes 9 to 12. Those in classes 11 and 12 will be prepared for engineering and medical entrance examinations, while pupils in classes 9 and 10 will be offered foundation courses to build core academic skills.
The scheme is not limited to engineering and medicine. Students who wish to pursue other career paths will also receive coaching for examinations such as the Railways, Common University Entrance Test (CUET), Staff Selection Commission (SSC), banking and other competitive tests.
According to the district education office, discussions are under way with several well-known coaching institutes to deliver the programme. The education department is also seeking support from institutions including IIT Kanpur and IIT Patna.
Online classes of around one to one-and-a-half hours will be held alongside regular school lessons. Subject specialists from partner institutions will conduct the sessions, with a weekly timetable outlining the subjects to be taught each day.
Student progress will be assessed weekly, officials said, with high-performing students identified for additional encouragement. Learners will also have the opportunity to ask questions directly to subject experts during the online sessions.
Most secondary and senior secondary schools in the district already have smart classroom facilities, officials said. Block education officers have been asked to submit lists of schools lacking such infrastructure so that the necessary equipment can be installed. Wi-Fi connectivity is also set to be provided in all schools to ensure smooth delivery of the online coaching programme.
