Patna: The Bihar government has taken a key step towards launching the fourth phase of teacher recruitment (TRE 4), with vacancy reports received from 37 of the state’s 38 districts. Only West Champaran is yet to submit its data, officials said, after which the consolidated vacancies will be forwarded to the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC).
According to senior officials in the education department, the requisition is expected to be sent to the BPSC by January 15, once the reservation roster is cleared in consultation with the general administration department. The BPSC is then likely to issue the advertisement for TRE 4 by the end of February, following verification of reservation norms and preparation of the final notification.
Under the usual timeline, the commission is expected to take at least a month after receiving the requisition to release the official advertisement. Once notified, candidates will be given around a month to submit their applications.
Education minister Sunil Kumar has said the upcoming phase will include no fewer than 25,000 vacancies, a figure that could rise to around 27,000 across Bihar’s nearly 78,000 primary, middle, secondary and higher secondary schools. In recent days, vacancy data has been received from districts including Siwan, Madhepura, Araria, Katihar and Sheikhpura.
To fast-track the process, the director of secondary education, Sajjan R, wrote to all district education officers on December 31, directing them to depute the district programme officer along with the reservation roster register and a roster expert to the department headquarters on January 5.
Alongside TRE 4, the state is also preparing to release the results of the State Teacher Eligibility Test (STET) for classes 9 to 12, which will allow qualified candidates to apply for secondary and higher secondary posts in the upcoming recruitment cycle.
For the first time, the government plans to implement a stricter domicile policy in teacher recruitment. Around 85% of posts in TRE 4 will be reserved for candidates from Bihar, while only 15% will be open to applicants from other states or Bihar residents who completed their matriculation or intermediate education outside the state.
The existing gender-based reservation policy will also continue. Female candidates from Bihar will be eligible for 50% reservation in primary-level recruitment and 35% in other categories — a move officials say is aimed at ensuring local representation, after previous phases saw significant participation from women candidates from neighbouring states such as Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand.
