Bhojpur: A serious road accident late on Monday night claimed the life of a truck driver and left another fighting for his life on the Ara–Sasaram state highway in Bihar’s Bhojpur district. The crash took place around 10 pm near the Nagraon turn, under the Charpokhri police station area, when two heavy vehicles collided head-on. The impact was sudden and devastating, shocking local residents and motorists travelling on the route at the time.
According to police officials, one of the trucks was carrying paddy while the other, a Hyva vehicle, was loaded with sand. Both vehicles were moving from opposite directions when they rammed into each other. The collision was so powerful that the front portions of both trucks were completely destroyed, leaving the vehicles badly mangled in the middle of the road. Traffic on the highway was disrupted for several hours as rescue and clearance work continued.
The driver of the paddy-laden truck died on the spot due to severe injuries. He has been identified as Vinay Yadav, 35, son of Lalan Yadav, a resident of Sohari village in the Charpokhri police station area. His death has left his family and village in deep shock and mourning. Locals said Vinay was the sole earning member of his family and had gone out for work like any other day, never expecting such a tragic end.
The driver of the sand-loaded truck, Sanjay Upadhyay, son of Ramsagar Upadhyay, a resident of Bahadurganj in the Faizabad police station area of Uttar Pradesh, was seriously injured in the crash. He was rescued from the damaged vehicle and rushed to a nearby hospital, where his condition is said to be critical. Doctors are closely monitoring him as treatment continues.
Initial investigation suggests that reckless driving or high speed may have caused the accident, though police said the exact reason will be confirmed after a detailed inquiry. The incident has once again raised concerns about safety on state highways, especially at night, when heavy vehicles often travel at high speeds. Local residents have demanded stricter traffic checks and better safety measures to prevent such deadly accidents in the future.
