Patna: More than 700 vehicle drivers in Bihar have undergone category-specific road safety training over the past four days, officials said, in a move aimed at curbing traffic accidents and improving responsible driving practices across the state.
The programme, organised by the Bihar Transport Department in collaboration with the Bihar Road Safety Council at the Vishwaeshwarayya Bhawan auditorium, included government and outsourced vehicle operators, truck drivers, and Ola-Uber cab drivers. Trainers guided participants on traffic regulations, responsible driving behaviours, and practical measures to prevent accidents.

Speaking about the initiative, Transport Secretary Raj Kumar said the training would continue in phased batches, covering different categories of drivers to ensure comprehensive reach.
Emphasis on Safe Driving Practices
The final day of training focused on truck and ride-hailing drivers. Trainers highlighted overspeeding, overloading, and mobile phone use as major contributors to road accidents. Participants were advised to follow speed limits, maintain lane discipline, use indicators and mirrors, and avoid driving while fatigued. The importance of seat belts, helmets, and reflective safety gear was also emphasised.
Pedestrian Safety
Secretariat officials stressed that adherence to road safety rules by drivers could significantly reduce accidents. Special attention was urged at zebra crossings, school zones, and busy intersections to protect pedestrians.
First Aid and Good Samaritan Guidance
Drivers were encouraged to provide first aid and assist accident victims in reaching hospitals, with information shared about legal protections under the Good Samaritan law.
Vehicle Fitness and Pollution Compliance
Training also covered routine vehicle maintenance, including brakes, tyres, headlights, and indicators, along with adherence to pollution control certificates, ensuring both safety and environmental compliance.
