Patna: Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced deadlines to identify new properties and those that have so far escaped taxation, as part of an effort to speed up property tax assessment across the city. Municipal Commissioner Yashpal Meena has instructed officials to conduct ward-by-ward surveys to ensure all properties are accounted for.
All new properties must be reported by January 31, while comprehensive reports covering all city properties must be submitted to PMC headquarters by February 28. The move aims to improve efficiency in tax collection and ensure compliance with local regulations.
The PMC has set up a three-tier system to carry out assessments. At the zone level, senior nodal officers, sanitation inspectors, and zonal officers will oversee operations. The circle level will involve executive officers, city managers, revenue officers, and chief sanitation inspectors, while ward-level teams of sanitation workers and assistants will conduct door-to-door surveys.
Under the Bihar Municipal Act 2007 and related property tax rules, all property owners are legally required to have their property or vacant land assessed and pay taxes on time. Failure to comply could result in legal action. The PMC is currently offering a one-time settlement scheme, allowing property owners to pay outstanding taxes with a 100% waiver on penalties and interest, valid until March 31.
Residents can pay property tax online through the PMC portal or offline at headquarters and circle offices. Door-to-door garbage collection vehicles are also equipped with QR codes for convenient payment. Self-assessment and re-assessment are available online, and PMC teams collect taxes in wards daily from 7 AM to 5 PM.
