Vaishali: A tragic case of alleged dowry-related murder has come to light in Vaishali district of Bihar, where the body of a newly married woman was found outside her parents’ house. Sarita Prakash, who had been married for only nine months, is suspected to have been killed by her in-laws after continuous demands for money. Her father, Jayprakash Mahto, said the family had already given dowry according to their capacity, but the demands did not stop even after the wedding.
The incident shocked the local community after CCTV footage revealed disturbing details. The footage shows a black Scorpio vehicle stopping outside the house late at night, with some people dumping Sarita’s body before driving away. When family members discovered her body in the morning, the house was filled with grief and chaos. Neighbours gathered soon after, and the police were informed. A post-mortem examination later confirmed that Sarita died due to strangulation.
Sarita was married in April 2025 to Satyendra Kumar, a resident of Kartahan Buzurg village in Vaishali district. Her father said the wedding was conducted peacefully and as per tradition. Along with household items, the family also gave Rs 8 lakh in the name of land registration. Despite this, Sarita was allegedly harassed for an additional Rs 3 lakh. Jayprakash said he last spoke to his daughter on Thursday evening, when she mentioned ongoing discussions about land registration and increasing pressure from her in-laws.
Police recovered the black Scorpio seen in the CCTV footage from Jalalpur village under Lalganj police station. The vehicle is reportedly linked to a sub-inspector who is related to the deceased woman’s in-laws, raising serious questions. An FIR has been registered against several people, including Sarita’s husband, and police teams are conducting raids as the accused family members are reportedly on the run. Senior officers have assured that arrests will be made soon and that the case will be investigated thoroughly.
