Arrah: The mortal remains of soldier Harram Kunwar, who was killed while on duty in Doda district, Jammu and Kashmir, arrived in his ancestral village of Nathmalpur, Barhara block, on Saturday morning, draped in the national tricolour. The return of the martyr’s body plunged the village into grief, as residents lined the streets to pay their respects.
Family members were inconsolable at the sight of Kunwar’s body. His wife, Khushboo, wept openly, saying that while her husband had always promised to stay by her side, he had made the ultimate sacrifice in service of the nation. Villagers, young and old, shared in the sorrow, their eyes reflecting both mourning and pride.
The soldier’s last rites are to be performed with full state honours at Mahuli Ghat in Bhojpur, where thousands are expected to gather. His eldest son, Priyanshu, will light the funeral pyre, following a final salute to the martyr by army officers and local officials. Prior to the cremation, Kunwar’s father paid a tearful tribute, while his younger son, Adarsh, saluted his father, creating an emotional scene that moved the crowd.
From the village to the cremation ground, slogans of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” (Victory to Mother India) and “Shaheed Amar Rahein” (Long live the martyr) resonated, reflecting the community’s respect for Kunwar’s sacrifice. Army personnel, district officials, and local representatives also offered floral tributes, underscoring the collective mourning and pride felt across the region.
The return of Harram Kunwar’s body has left Bhojpur in a state of sorrow, yet there is a palpable sense of pride that the district has given a brave son to the nation, who laid down his life in its defence.
