Sabour: The 77th Republic Day was celebrated at Bihar Agriculture University, where the Vice-Chancellor, D R Singh, hoisted the national flag and took the salute of the NCC parade amid the national anthem. Addressing students, faculty and staff, Singh reflected on the university’s recent achievements while setting out priorities for the years ahead, placing particular emphasis on the role of young people in meeting national challenges.

He said that while India continues to confront economic and social pressures, its youthful population remains a source of resilience and opportunity. He described agriculture not merely as a livelihood, but as a foundation of India’s culture, traditions and social fabric, arguing that agricultural universities have a central role to play in nation-building. Bihar Agriculture University, he added, is working actively to improve farmers’ incomes while maintaining a strong focus on students.
In line with the National Education Policy, the university has introduced courses on Indian agricultural heritage, Indian knowledge systems and the principles of natural farming. According to the vice-chancellor, the aim is to combine scientific training with Indian values, ensuring graduates are equipped for both modern agriculture and sustainable practices.
The celebrations also showcased innovation through a series of tableaux presented by university departments and centres. Highlights included “Operation Sindoor”, focused on vermilion cultivation, a display on Neera production, and presentations on AI-based education and technology transfer. The “Operation Sindoor” tableau won first place, while Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sabour, secured second place for its work on innovation in technology transfer.
Cultural performances by students from prominent Bhagalpur schools added to the festive atmosphere, with group dances drawing applause from the audience. Participants in sports competitions, along with teachers, non-teaching staff and campus residents, were honoured during the programme. Researchers were also recognised for outstanding contributions, including work in TC research, medicinal plants under the AICRP programme, and national soil mapping initiatives.
