Patna: Anant Singh, the newly elected Janata Dal (United) MLA from the Mokama constituency, has been granted permission by the court to take his oath of office, ending weeks of political uncertainty.
The special court of Judge Praveen Kumar Malviya, designated for MP and MLA cases, issued the order on Monday. Singh, currently lodged in Beur Jail in connection with the Dularchand Yadav murder case, will be brought directly from prison to the Bihar Legislative Assembly on Tuesday to participate in the oath-taking ceremony under tight security arrangements.
Earlier, the rejection of his bail application by a lower court had raised concerns that Singh’s assembly membership could be in jeopardy on technical grounds. The latest court ruling provides temporary relief, allowing him to assume office. Following the ceremony, however, he is expected to return to Beur Jail, as his regular bail in the murder case has not yet been granted.
The Dularchand Yadav case dates back to October 2025, when Yadav was shot dead during the assembly election campaign. Singh and several others were accused in connection with the murder. He was arrested prior to the elections and has remained in custody since.
