Patna: Patna is preparing for a major change in its transport network as the six-lane Kacchi Dargah-Bidupur bridge over the Ganges River nears completion. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar recently visited the site and confirmed that the bridge is expected to be ready by April, shortly after Holi. This new bridge will connect Patna with Hajipur, Vaishali, Samastipur, and other northern districts, making travel smoother and faster. Until now, commuters have had to rely mainly on the Gandhi Setu, which is often crowded and slow, causing delays for daily travelers.
The new bridge is designed to reduce congestion on Gandhi Setu and provide a safer, faster route for commuters. Office-goers, students, patients, and traders will all benefit from shorter travel times. The government has emphasized that the approach roads to the bridge must be completed at the same time, ensuring traffic can move smoothly from both sides as soon as the bridge opens. Reports suggest that most construction work is already finished, with only minor tasks remaining before the official opening.
Beyond helping commuters, the bridge is expected to strengthen economic connections between Patna and North Bihar. Traders will find it easier to transport goods, and businesses may see faster deliveries and increased trade. The improved connectivity could also create new jobs and encourage economic activity in the region. For residents, the bridge promises to make everyday travel easier and safer while boosting opportunities for work, education, and healthcare access.
For many in Patna and the surrounding districts, the Kacchi Dargah-Bidupur bridge is more than just a road; it is a long-awaited solution to chronic traffic problems. Once opened, it will allow people to travel quickly between Patna and North Bihar, making life more convenient and helping the region grow. The upcoming opening after Holi has raised hopes among local communities for smoother commutes and stronger connections across the Ganges.
