Patna: Bihar Finance Minister Bijendra Prasad on Monday presented the state’s third supplementary budget in the legislative assembly, proposing an additional expenditure of Rs 12,165.43 crore for the remaining months of the 2025-26 financial year. The government has sought assembly approval for the allocation, which is set to be discussed on Tuesday before being passed.
The proposed supplementary budget divides the expenditure between scheme-wise and committed expenditure. Of the total Rs 12,165.43 crore, Rs 9,586.39 crore is allocated under the annual scheme head, while Rs 2,579.04 crore covers establishment and committed expenses.
Under the scheme head, the budget includes both central and state contributions for key programmes. Centrally sponsored schemes receive a total of Rs 3,392.58 crore, with Rs 633.63 crore allocated for the Anganwadi Nutrition Scheme, Rs 122 crore for the National Food Security Scheme, and Rs 41.81 crore for the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan. Other major central allocations include Rs 1,184 crore for the National Rural Livelihoods Mission and Rs 1,013 crore for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
State-funded programmes have been allotted Rs 6,193.80 crore, with significant investments in infrastructure and social welfare. These include Rs 1,700 crore for industrial promotion, Rs 1,100 crore for rural road upgradation, and Rs 862.50 crore for the construction of medical colleges and hospitals. Provisions also cover Rs 500 crore for Panchayat government buildings and Rs 400 crore for roads and bridges.
The Panchayati Raj Department has secured Rs 298.27 crore for electricity bills and Rs 233.35 crore for police building construction and land acquisition. Notably, the budget includes Rs 100 crore each for rural water supply schemes, scholarships for students from backward and extremely backward classes, and the development of stadiums and sports infrastructure. Grants to central cooperative banks have been set at Rs 55 crore.
