Khagaria: The Sultanpur–Aguwani Ghat Ganga Bridge project is moving ahead at a steady pace, bringing new hope to people in Bhagalpur and Khagaria districts. On February 9, the road construction department held a detailed review meeting through video conferencing to check the progress of the work. The meeting was chaired by the department secretary, Pankaj Kumar Pal, and was attended by senior engineers and officials connected with the project. The four-lane cable-stayed bridge, which will also have footpaths, is expected to become a major transport link across the Ganga and improve connectivity in the region.
During the meeting, officials shared important technical updates. The senior project engineer informed that IIT Roorkee has given in-principle approval for the design of the foundation and substructure of the bridge. This approval is a major step because it confirms that the design is safe and suitable for construction. With this clearance, work on the main structure can now move ahead with greater speed and confidence.
Construction work is progressing at different sections of the bridge. Old well caps are being cut between pillars P9 and P13, starting with P10, while preparations are underway to remove the old well caps of P11 and P12. These steps are necessary to strengthen the foundation of the bridge. At the same time, the contractor’s proposal for the remaining section between spans P6 and P9 is being examined by the authority engineer to ensure that the design and construction plan meet all safety standards.
The secretary directed that the entire bridge must be completed within 18 months and that the contractor must submit a detailed work schedule and milestones immediately. He also ordered that progress will be reviewed every week. The approach roads connected to the bridge will cover a total length of 20.3 km and are targeted for completion by May 2026. Work is going on in almost all sections, except for the railway overbridge at Pasraha. Pal also instructed the contractor to deploy enough workers and machines to speed up the project and clearly stated that there will be no compromise on the quality of construction, as the bridge will play a vital role in Bihar’s future development.
