Patna: The Bihar government has announced plans for a major Rs 5,000 crore steel plant in Gayaji, marking a significant step in its efforts to expand industrial development across the state. The proposal, put forward by Shyam Steel, comes as part of a broader initiative to establish industrial units in every district.
According to the state’s industries minister, Dr Dilip Kumar Jaiswal, the facility will be located along the Gayaji–Dobhi Road industrial corridor. Once operational, the plant is expected to produce up to 1 million tonnes of steel annually, significantly increasing manufacturing capacity in the region.
Government officials say the project will generate approximately 8,000 direct and indirect jobs, offering new employment opportunities for local residents and youth. The state administration has also reaffirmed its goal of creating one crore jobs over the next five years, with the steel project positioned as a flagship initiative in that effort.
Chief secretary Pratyaya Amrit held discussions with industry representatives to address longstanding barriers to investment, pledging faster resolution of issues related to payments and approvals. The meeting, which took place near Patna airport for the convenience of external investors, also saw proposals from 14 other investors, including an AI-enabled oxygen plant, sugar mills, and financial ventures.
The Bihar government says that accelerating industrialisation and making the investment climate more favourable remains a top priority, with sustained efforts to attract capital and support economic growth in Gayaji and beyond.
