Patna: As Mahashivratri approaches, the Bihar Police has placed the entire state on high alert to ensure the safety of millions of devotees expected to visit Shiva temples. The Police Headquarters has instructed all district SSPs and SPs, including those in Patna, to maintain special vigilance and tighten security at all religious places. Officials said that large crowds, especially at major temples, require strong arrangements so that the festival can be celebrated peacefully without any risk to public safety.
All important Shiva temples and places of worship have been put on the sensitive list, including the famous Garibnath Temple in Muzaffarpur, which attracts huge numbers of devotees every year. To prevent any untoward incident, 24-hour CCTV surveillance has been ordered in and around temple premises. Police have also been told to closely monitor entry and exit gates, while local administrations are preparing detailed crowd management plans to control heavy footfall and avoid chaos.
In addition to uniformed forces, police personnel in plain clothes will be deployed among the devotees. These officers, including both men and women, will quietly observe the crowds and keep an eye on any suspicious behaviour. Quick response teams will remain active at sensitive spots, and continuous patrolling will be carried out near temples and busy areas to ensure quick action in case of any emergency.
Bomb Disposal Squads and dog squads have also been placed on full alert across the state. Temple premises and nearby areas will be checked in advance, and any suspicious object will be dealt with immediately. The police have urged the public to cooperate and report anything unusual. With extensive preparations in place, the state administration aims to provide a safe and smooth Mahashivratri experience for every devotee.
