Patna: Patna Metro has moved a step closer to extending services along its priority corridor after completing a crucial safety inspection of the Malahi Pakadi section.
Anand Kumar, the Electrical Inspector to Government (EIG), carried out a detailed inspection of the stretch on Saturday, a process regarded as essential before commercial operations can begin. Officials described the exercise as a significant milestone in ensuring the corridor’s operational readiness.
The inspection included a comprehensive technical review of the overhead equipment (OHE) between Malahi Pakadi and Bhootnath. Using a specialised catenary maintenance vehicle, engineers tested the traction system for safety, reliability and performance under operational conditions.
According to metro authorities, the checks confirmed compliance with prescribed standards, paving the way for smooth and secure operations once passenger services are introduced on the extended section.

At present, Patna Metro services run between New ISBT and Bhootnath Road, covering three stations. The addition of Khemnichak and Malahi Pakadi will extend the operational stretch to five stations, marking the first expansion of the network since its launch.
Officials said the extension is expected to open to passengers soon, offering improved connectivity in the eastern parts of the city and reinforcing the project’s aim of providing faster, modern and more convenient urban transport.
The Malahi Pakadi expansion forms part of the larger priority corridor, which is being developed in phases as Patna continues its transition towards a metro-based public transport system.
