Jehanabad: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken over the inquiry into the death of a NEET aspirant who lived at Shambhu Girls’ Hostel in Patna. On Sunday morning, a 20-member team led by the agency’s Inspector General and Superintendent of Police reached the student’s village in Shakoorabad, Jehanabad, arriving in five vehicles.
The team conducted separate interviews with family members, including her parents, brother, sister-in-law, and grandmother, in different rooms over a period of four hours. Investigators sought comprehensive information to understand the exact circumstances that led to the student’s death. Local police ensured the area was secured and restricted media access during the questioning.
During the operation, the CBI seized the student’s books, notebooks, pens, clothes, bag, and even her scissors. The agency also confiscated her brother’s mobile phone to examine call records and data. The previous night, a Bihar Police Special Investigation Team (SIT) had visited the family but was refused access to the student’s belongings.
The student had been found unconscious at Shambhu Girls’ Hostel on January 6 and died during treatment on January 11. Dissatisfied with the state police investigation, the family and supporters staged protests at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. Following mounting public pressure, the Bihar government recommended a CBI investigation on January 31. The agency formally registered the case two days ago and has now begun its probe.
