Bhagalpur: Industrialist Gautam Adani, chairman of the Adani Group, is arriving in Bihar on Sunday to inspect the upcoming 2,400MW ultra-supercritical thermal power plant in Pirpainti, located in Bhagalpur district. The visit is being seen as important for reviewing the progress of the project, which is considered one of the largest energy investments in the state. Adani is scheduled to land by helicopter at the project site between 12pm and 1pm and will meet company officials and district authorities during his visit.
The power plant is being developed on around 479 hectares of land in Sirmatpur and nearby villages of Pirpainti block. The location is considered strategically important as it lies close to the Ganga river, a national highway and the Pirpainti railway station. Officials say this will make the transportation of equipment and materials easier. The project is expected to be completed within five years. At present, boundary wall construction and land-levelling work are moving ahead.
The district administration has made tight security and medical arrangements ahead of the visit. Armed police personnel will be deployed at the helipad and the project site. Senior officials, including those responsible for law and order and land matters, have been assigned specific duties to ensure smooth coordination. A medical team, along with a critical care ambulance and necessary medicines, will remain on standby during the inspection.
Experts believe the plant will play a major role in meeting Bihar’s growing electricity demand. The ultra-supercritical technology planned for the plant is known for higher efficiency and lower emissions compared with older thermal power systems. During construction, the project is expected to create thousands of jobs, while permanent employment opportunities will follow once the plant becomes operational. Officials say the project could also attract further investment and strengthen industrial development in the region, making it a key part of Bihar’s long-term energy strategy.
