Patna: A friendly cricket match between senior doctors marked the Foundation Day celebrations at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) in Patna today. The 16-over match was played on the institute’s campus between the Director’s eleven-member team and the Dean’s eleven-member team. The event brought together doctors from various departments and created a festive atmosphere within the medical campus.
The Director’s XI was captained by Dr Binde Kumar, while the Dean’s XI was led by Dr Om Kumar. After winning the toss, the Dean’s team chose to bat first. Despite a determined effort, they were bowled out for 105 runs. The Director’s team responded confidently, chasing down the target in around 12 overs and losing only one wicket. The Director’s XI secured a comfortable nine-wicket victory.
Dr Manish Kumar from the Department of Pediatrics and Dr Rajiv Kumar from the Department of Nuclear Medicine were jointly named Man of the Match for their strong performances. Dr Manish Kumar was declared the best batsman, while Dr Rajiv Kumar was awarded best bowler. Doctors from departments including medicine, surgery, microbiology, hematology, trauma and emergency, pediatric surgery, cardiothoracic and vascular surgery, physiotherapy, radiology, dentistry and ophthalmology took part in the match.
The match was conducted under the supervision of Dr Vivek Kumar Roy from the Department of Surgery. Several senior doctors, including Dr Bibhuti Prasanna Sinha, Dr Krishna Gopal, Dr Sanjay Suman and Dr Preet Pal Singh, were present and encouraged the players. The event highlighted unity and camaraderie among the medical staff beyond their professional responsibilities.
