Patna: Bihar Police Week 2026 has opened with a broad package of reforms aimed at modernising the force and strengthening welfare measures for personnel. Inaugurating the week at Mithilesh Academy, the Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister, Samrat Choudhary, announced plans to introduce artificial intelligence in criminal investigations and establish high schools in every police line across the state.
He described Police Week as more than a ceremonial observance, calling it an opportunity to deepen trust between the police and the public. He said the government remains committed to equipping the force with modern tools and infrastructure. Under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s leadership, he added, the state is focusing on making policing more technology-driven and responsive to emerging challenges.
A key element of the reform agenda is the integration of AI-based tools to tackle cybercrime, which officials say has become one of the most pressing threats. Officers will be trained in advanced cyber investigation techniques, including visits to other states to study best practices. The aim, he said, is to ensure Bihar Police stays “two steps ahead” of offenders in an increasingly digital landscape.
The government has also announced the launch of the “Police Didi” initiative, a dedicated wing intended to assist women in sensitive cases and reduce fear associated with approaching law enforcement. Officials say the programme is designed to create a more approachable and supportive environment for women seeking help.
Welfare measures form another pillar of the announcements. High schools will be established in every police line to ensure access to education for officers’ children. “Jeevika Didi’s Kitchen” will also be introduced within police lines to provide nutritious meals to personnel while generating employment for local women. Pending construction of police line buildings has been ordered to be completed within fixed deadlines to improve living and working conditions.
Samrat Choudhary said Bihar had moved past the era of Naxal violence but now faced the growing challenge of cybercrime. Additional director general Kamal Kishore Singh said a “Vibrant Village Programme” would be conducted in border districts during Police Week, with awareness campaigns along the Nepal border in coordination with the Sashastra Seema Bal. Community dialogue programmes are also scheduled in every district on February 27, observed as Police Day.
