Patna: Holi will be celebrated on March 4 this year under what astrologers describe as a special conjunction of the Purva Phalguni and Uttara Phalguni nakshatras. According to local experts in Patna, Purva Phalguni will remain in effect until 7:27 am, after which Uttara Phalguni will dominate for the rest of the day. The overlap is being described as a favourable celestial alignment for marking the festival.
In keeping with Vedic Sanatan traditions, devotees are advised to begin the day with prayers to their kuldevta (family deity), isht devta (chosen deity) and other revered gods and goddesses. Offering abir and gulal to the deities before joining public celebrations is widely regarded as auspicious. Priests say such rituals are meant to invoke blessings for prosperity, harmony and well-being before the festivities begin.
Astrologers also highlight the symbolic importance of colours associated with Holi. Red is linked with energy, courage and vitality, and is believed to promote health and recognition. Yellow, often associated with Jupiter (Brihaspati), is said to enhance spiritual radiance and wisdom. Orange symbolises knowledge, joy and warmth, while blue, representing the sky and water elements, is thought to bring calmness and mental peace.
Green is traditionally seen as a colour of growth, prosperity and positive energy, connected with Mercury in astrological belief. Purple is associated with dignity and balance, while pink is linked to love, beauty and happiness. Though largely symbolic, these associations continue to influence how many families choose their colours during the festival.
