Patna: Authorities in Patna have launched a week-long public awareness campaign on fire safety as the district prepares for the annual fire-prone season.
The campaign, running from March 3 to March 9, is being conducted under the leadership of the district fire officer and aims to educate residents about preventive measures to protect life and property.
Teams from the fire department are carrying out awareness programmes across different parts of the district, with a particular focus on slum areas, narrow lanes, densely populated neighbourhoods and educational and commercial institutions.
Officials said a mix of traditional and modern communication methods is being used to reach the public.
Street plays, canopy-based information centres, pamphlet distribution and the installation of banners and billboards are among the key activities being conducted across Patna. Fire safety messages are also being spread through digital wall paintings in several areas.
Temporary information kiosks have been set up at major intersections to provide guidance on fire prevention measures. Roadshows have also been organised in neighbourhoods including Kankarbagh, Danapur and Lodipur to encourage vigilance among residents.
Live demonstrations of fire safety practices have been staged through street plays at locations in Patna City and Danapur, offering practical guidance on how to respond to emergencies.
A film explaining fire safety guidelines was also screened along the city’s Marine Drive to raise awareness among the public.
According to officials, banners and billboards have been installed at around 60 locations across the city, while wall writings are also being carried out to reinforce safety messages. Public announcements through loudspeakers are being used to encourage residents to take precautionary measures.
Workshops held in Lodipur, Patna City and Danapur have also provided basic training on firefighting techniques to community members, including JEEViKA workers, Anganwadi staff and local residents.
Meetings have also been conducted with local public representatives and community leaders to discuss strengthening local safety mechanisms.
The district fire officer said the campaign was being organised in view of the increased risk of fire incidents during the summer months.
“During fire-prone periods, the risk of fires increases due to rising temperatures and westerly winds. Our effort is to ensure that every citizen of Patna is aware of fire prevention measures so that we can collectively achieve the goal of zero accidents,” the officer said.
The fire department has urged residents to follow fire safety guidelines, handle flammable materials carefully and immediately alert emergency services in the event of any fire-related incident.
