Sabour/Patna: Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), Sabour has launched a 21-day training programme focused on the use of artificial intelligence and geospatial technologies for advanced soil and water resource mapping.
The programme, organised by the department of soil science and sponsored by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), began on March 7 and will continue until March 27.
The inaugural session was held at the university’s mini auditorium and was chaired by the vice-chancellor, Dr D R Singh.

Dr Anshuman Kohli, head of the department of soil science and course director of the training programme, welcomed participants from different parts of the country and presented an overview of the course.
In his address, Kohli highlighted the importance of preserving soil health for sustainable agricultural development. He said the use of modern technologies such as geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing and artificial intelligence can help improve the assessment and management of soil and water resources.
Speaking at the event, Singh congratulated the organisers for designing a programme he described as both timely and relevant. He emphasised the growing importance of artificial intelligence and remote sensing in modern agriculture and encouraged participants to actively engage in discussions and knowledge exchange during the training.

Other university officials present at the event included Dr A K Singh, director of research; Dr S K Pathak, dean of postgraduate studies; and Dr Ruby Rani, associate dean and principal of Bihar Agricultural College, Sabour. They extended their best wishes for the success of the programme.
The training programme is expected to provide participants with practical insights into the use of advanced technologies such as GIS and remote sensing to support sustainable agriculture and environmental management.
At the end of the inaugural session, Dr Sagar Nandulal Inglen, coordinator of the winter training programme, thanked the guests, participants, faculty members and media representatives for their participation.
