Patna: Nishant Kumar, the son of Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar, is set to formally join the Janata Dal (United) on Sunday afternoon in Patna, marking his entry into active politics.
The induction ceremony is scheduled to take place at the party’s state headquarters anytime now, where leaders and workers have gathered in large numbers to welcome him.
Scenes of celebration were visible outside the JD(U) office, with party workers arriving with bouquets, drums and banners bearing Nishant Kumar’s images. Supporters were also seen raising slogans in support of the chief minister and his son as they awaited the event.
Some workers brought elephants, horses and camels as part of the celebrations, while posters of Nishant Kumar were displayed across the party office premises.
JD(U) leaders said the party’s rank and file had long been waiting for Nishant Kumar’s entry into politics.
“This is an atmosphere of joy. We have been waiting for a long time for Nishant Kumar to join the JD(U), and now it is finally happening,” said Sanjay Gandhi, a JD(U) member of the legislative council.
He described Nishant Kumar as a simple and patient person and said he reflected many of the qualities associated with his father.
Party leaders indicated that after joining the JD(U), Nishant Kumar is expected to travel across Bihar to interact with people and party workers.
Neeraj Kumar, the party’s chief spokesperson, said Nishant Kumar would undertake a statewide tour in the coming weeks.
Ahead of his formal induction, Nishant Kumar also met several JD(U) legislators, and party district presidents were introduced to him as part of organisational preparations.
