Araria: Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday announced development projects worth Rs 545.88 crore for Araria district and confirmed plans to build a new airport in Forbesganj during his “Samriddhi Yatra”.
He arrived in Araria by helicopter and began the visit by inaugurating a new police line complex built at a cost of Rs 54 crore. He later travelled by road to the district headquarters where he opened an Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) training institute constructed for Rs 29.6 crore. The chief minister also laid the foundation stone for the renovation of the Kosi Dairy milk chilling plant and visited exhibitions organised by several government departments.
At a public meeting, Bihar’s deputy chief minister Samrat Choudhary announced that a modern airport would be built on around 150 acres of land in Forbesganj in Araria district. He added that the central government had begun the tendering process for another airport in Veerpur in Supaul district, which he said would improve connectivity and create employment opportunities.
Addressing a gathering at Araria College Stadium, CM referred to the condition of the state before 2005, contrasting it with what he described as improvements in roads, electricity and healthcare infrastructure. During his speech, he asked the audience if development work in the state was progressing well and urged them to support continued efforts.
He also thanked prime minister Narendra Modi for the central government’s support for Bihar’s development. He said the state government had prepared a roadmap for development between 2025 and 2030 and highlighted financial support announced in the Union budgets of July 2024 and February 2025.
The chief minister also mentioned initiatives including the establishment of a Makhana Board and funding for the cleaning of the Western Kosi Canal. After spending about two hours in Araria, Kumar departed for Kishanganj at around 12:25pm as part of the ongoing tour.
